K98 Combat Bayonet, Matching Numbers With Carrying Leather

The K98 bayonet production began in 1934. The K98 bayonet was a standard issue item and was accompanied by a bayonet frog. The K98 bayonet remained the standard issue bayonet through-out the war with minor manufacturing variations. As the war continued the quality of the bayonets deteriorated and in mid-1944 most manufacturers discontinued producing the bayonet to concentrate on producing other essential war materials.

Roughly 25cm long drop forged, steel construction blade with wide fullers. Blade has lost most of it's original blueing. Maker marked "42ffc" and serial numbered "1772 a". Scabbard has the same serial number "1772" which is not that common to find. Bakelite grip and stud functions well. Comes complete with black colored carrying leather with intact closure strap. The carrying leather is maker marked as well as year marked "1941".

All export parts of the dagger has been painted black. The paint job was done for a long time ago but war time or not impossible to say. All parts shows matching wear and age. This is a well used example in good condition!
