Waffen-SS Vehicle License Plate, Götz von Berlichingen

This ground dug licence plate was discovered in France in the early 80's. This type of shaped plates was attached to the back of the vehicle. It meassures 32cm (at the base) x 19cm and is made of stamped sheet metal with a White color wash. Black hand painted SS runics and the license number "404314" to the center of the plate. There is two acceptance stamp's in red ink. One is faded and the other is clearly visable. The sign has raised edges which are folded backwards. There is three drilled screw holes for attachment. Ground dug condition, with some folds and Heavy rust. Still clearly readable with a good portion of the original paint still intact.

With some time, all period license plates is traceable to a unit. This one comes from SS panzer grenadier brigade 51 which was later attached to 17-SS Division Götz von Berlichingen! Both units saw Heavy action the summer 1944 in France.

Ground dug example, still super cool and will look great on display!!
