The Reichsgau Lower Danube (German: Reichsgau Niederdonau) was an administrative division of Nazi Germany consisting of areas in Lower Austria, Burgenland, southeastern parts of Bohemia, southern parts of Moravia, later expanded with Devín and Petržalka. It existed between 1938 and 1945.

 

Red painted tin with raised lettering highlighted in silver reading "Gau Niederdonau" and with a round hole on the hinged lid for Papier geld and a slot for coins. Inner lid has coin check mechanism, bottom marked with maker information - M. Westermann & Co., G.m.b.H and with WESCO logo: "Neheim-Ruhr".

 

The can has been repainted, not recently, possibly period. There is a couple of dings and spots of Surface rust. 

 

Rather scarce Austrian "Gau Niederdonau" expample!!
