Heer Oberleutnant in Infantry Rgt 124 Four Pocket Tunic, Photos and Death notice.

 

Here we have a group which belonged to Walter Steinmetz who was a Oberleutnant and Kompanie-Chef in Infantry Rgt 124. He was KIA at the age of 28 years in the proximity of Riga Latvia. He was the wearer of the following Awards, KvK 2´nd class with swords, Eastmedal, Four year service medal, SA sportsbadge in bronze, Riders badge in bronze and finally the woundbadge in black.

 

Group consist of the following items

 

Steinmetz M36, six button front, tunic. Made in fieldgrey ribbed doeskin cloth. Darkgreen badgecloth stand-and-fall-collar. Two pleated breast pockets and pleated lower pockets. Officers dull aluminum collartabs on darkgreen basecloth, piped white for infantry branch machinesewn to tunic. Tunic has sew-in dullgrey aluminium junior officers shoulder boards with white wool underlay. Each has as one guilt pip as well as a set of "124" cyphers attached to them denoting the rank of Oberleutnant in Infantry Rgt 124. Handembroidered bullion breasteagle handsewn over right breastpocket. On left breast pocket as well as over and under it there are loops for a small Three Place ribbonbar and Three Awards.

 

Tunic has a dark green rayon lining with pyama striped rayon cloth in sleeves. Slot to left lower pocket for dagger hanger to pass through and the acctual daggerhanger as well as a extra inside belt for better closure. Tunic has a tailorlabel at the left inside pocket for the maker "G. Eberl, Nürnberg". Inside the breastpocket there are no namelabel. Tunic show Little wear  and was most certainly Steinmetz Walking out tunic. There are two pinhead sized holes on the arms but hardly noticeable.

 

On the tunic comes Steinmetz Three place ribbon bar, SA sportsbadge in bronze, Riders badge in bronze (Which is a reproduction and must have been replaced at some stage) and finally his woundbadge in black.

 

Also in the Group is four photos of Steinmetz within a frame with the Death notice. Photos is of a similar tunic where Steinmetz is wearing the same set of badges.

 

Very nice and untouched (except for the ridersbadge) small Group to a brave Soldier wo where KIA during 1944!!
