The Close Combat Clasp was introduced on November 25th 1942 for award to personnel who fought in hand to hand combat situations unsupported by armor. The Clasp was issued in three grades, bronze, silver and gold, with each successive grade signifying more days spent in hand-to-hand or close combat. Gold grade was for fifty days of hand-to-hand combat.

 

Here we have a die struck badge made of Zinc with a gilt washed finish. Magnetic backing plate behind eagle, bayonet and grenade motif is held in place by crimped sides at reverse. Reverse with broad, tapering pin with solid soldered hinge and catch all intact. Reverse well marked with embossed designer's name and address, "Fec. W.E. Peekhaus Berlin" and manufacturer's name, "AUSF.C.F. Juncker BERLIN". The claps is in good condition with some of its original gold paint intact to the obverse. More paint is still intact to the reverse.
