The Bomber and dive bomber clasp was introduced by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring on January 1941. Bomber clasp were awarded in three grades: Bronze for twenty operational flights, Silver for sixty and Gold for one hundred ten operational flights.

On April 29TH 1944 a numbered pendant was introduced as personnel’s operational flight numbers even exceeded the prescribed number required for the star-burst pendant. The numbered pendants began at "200" and went up as high as "2000" in increments of one hundred.

The zinc pendant has a subtly raised outer lip and a recessed interior with black washed, embossed numeral, "400" on a subtly pebbled background field. The top edge of the central rectangular bar has two small cut-out loops for the securing arms. The solid reverse of the pendant is plain.
