Waffen-SS EM/NCO's M40 Overseas Cap

The cap is made of field-grey wool with fold down side and back panels that slope gently downwards to the front center. The front center of the cap has a machine woven SS eagle in silvery/grey threads on a cut-out, woven black rayon base. The front center of the fold down panels has a machine woven Totenkopf in silvery/grey threads on a cut-out woven black rayon base. Both the eagle and the Totenkopf are neatly handstitched to the cap. An inverted "V" golden yellow soutache is also sewn to the front of the cap which denotes service in a panzer recon or cavalry unit. Interesting to find a RBNr numbered cap with a soutache since soutaches was no longer in use when makers started to code their Products with RBN numbers. Still regulations like this was often ignored and caps with soutache is rather frequently seen on pictured from 1944-1945. The soutache match the cap perfectly in wear and age/wear toning.

The interior of the cap is fully lined in grey rayon. The lining is stamped with a RBNr which reads: "0 / 0062 / 0431". It is also size stamped "55".

The cap shows clear signs of use all over. The insignias shows matching wear compared to the rest of the cap with the SS skull showing even more use with some loose and missing threads, see Pictures. The soutache shows Heavy color fading and looks front the obverse almost lemon yellow. When folding the flaps down, the right original golden yellow color is clearly visable. Lining shows similar signs of use with color fading and soiling.

Well used Waffen-SS combat cap with a very nice apperance!!
