Foldable Shovel With 1’st Pattern Leather Carrying Case

Introudced November 12th 1938 to replace the earlier non-folding pattern entrenching tool.

The folding shovel consists of a lathed hardwood construction handle with tooled steel shovel head. The shovel has a brown bakelite and steel nut. The bakelite nut still functions. The folding shovel comes with a simulated, blackened grained leather, pressed cardboard, (Presstoff), construction carrying case with leather and steel fittings. The leather is nicely maker marked and dated 1940. The shovel is maker marked “VbW” and also waffenamt marked. Both shovel and case is in very good condition with minor signs of age and use.
