Heer EM/NCO's Visor Cap, Unit marked: Stab 17'th Infantry Regiment and also Named

The 17th Infantry Division was an infantry division of the German Army, active before and during World War II. Formed in 1934, it took part in most of the campaigns of the Wehrmacht and was decimated in January 1945. Reconstituted in Germany, it surrendered to the Allies in May of that year. The division was responsible for a number of war crimes.

 

Early produced private purchase Infantry EM/NCO´s visor cap made of field-grey doeskin cloth with white, trimmed wool piping. Piping denots service in the Infantry. Pinned in place to the front is a early die stamped Aluminium national eagle and wreath / cockade. Pinned in place between the insignias is a IR 17 traditional skull made of die stamped buntmetal. Buttoned in place to each side is a black leather chincord with laquered finish.

 

Inside cap is lined with golden yellow rayon. Cap still has it’s original and complete sweat diamond shield still intact. A hand written name label is slided in place. It reads: “Obgfr (Obergefreiter) Kettl Friedrich”. Brown leather sweatband is all intact. Sweatband is marked with a black stamp, to the inside. It reads: “Stab IR 17”. Cap shows clear signs of age and real use. There is a couple of smaller holes located to the crown. The cap also has some color fading, nap-wear and stains to the crown. Inside is rather clean with signs of wear and use to the sweatband. Size is about 55-56.

 

Rare unit marked and named cap is well used condition!!
