Luftwaffe Field Division Splinter Camo Jacket for a Paratrooper Feldwebel

The Luftwaffe field divisions were rapidly mobilized from Luftwaffe ground personnel in late 1942 and early 1943. When the Luftwaffe field divisions were being formed the need for proper camouflage garments was raised and a design for an inexpensive, easy to manufacture field jacket, suitable for ground combat, was proposed and accepted in late 1942.

Water resistant, cotton drill construction jcket with printed splinter pattern camouflage. Five button front closure with a single metal hook and eye at neck. There are two lower hip horizontal slash pockets with straight edged button down flaps. Outside seam slashes at cuffs with snap closures. Slided in place to each shoulder is a Luftwaffe Feldwebel shoulder strap. Armpits are open vented, with internal stitched on reinforcements. Five stitched eyelets to either side panel by the waistline are for the belt support hooks. Machine embroidered second pattern breast eagle on camouflage cloth, factory sewn in machine sewn place with heavy zig-zag stitching. Large lay down collar with a dual button holed closure strap is stitched to the reverse of the front left collar. The reverse of the right front collar has two corresponding buttons for the closure strap. Unlined interior. Interior left breast has a horizontal slash pocket with button closure. The inner pocket bag is well marked with black ink stamp “LBA 43” and also size marked in black ink. All buttons are originaly sewn to the tunic. The jacket is in very good condition with hardly any signs of age and use. Only damage is one of the cuff snap buttons missing, see picture. Both cuff buttons are now closed, the fabric seems to be a bit weak but as long as they are not open/closed again, there should be no problems.

A rare and really nice Luftwaffe field division parka, which comes with it’s original, factory sewn camouflage national eagle!!
