German The War Commemorative Medal of 1870–1871 With Five Battle Clasps

The War Commemorative Medal of 1870–1871 is a campaign medal presented by Kaiser William I. The medal was presented to commemorate service in the Franco Prussian War. The medal was presented to members of the united German armies.  Clasps were authorized on the 25th anniversary of the German victory, to commemorate selected battles. The medal for combatants was manufactured from captured bronze cannon barrels.

 

This is the combatants version, constructed of die struck metal from captured canons. As also is impressed to the rim “AUS EROBERTEM IM KREIG” (From captured cannon). The medal comes complete with medal ring, suspension ring and medal bar. The medal bar has five battle clasps. Reverse of the medal bar is complete with intact fastening device. The medal is in good condition with light signs of age.
