Heer General Assault Badge, Early Tombak

The General Assault badge was introduced on June 1’st 1940, by Generaloberst Walther von Brauchitsch. Awarded to support personnel who were ineligible for the Infantry or Panzer Assault badges. Criteria for award of the badge was basically the same as the criteria for award of the Infantry and Panzer Assault badges with the main qualification being participation in three separate assaults in a supporting role. The badge was awarded to Pioneer, artillery, assault gun, anti-tank, anti-aircraft and medical personnel.

This early war, high quality badge is made of die struck Tombak. To the reverse is the hinge, pin and thin catch all intact. The badge has most of it’s original silver paint wash still intact and shows onlyt light signs of age / use.
