Heer Stug Obergefreiter's Wrapper
€4,950.00
The black panzer wrap uniform had proven practical in the confines of tanks, but it was determined that the color was too conspicuous for use while performing the close support role as the assault gunners were quite often required to leave their vehicles for observation within close range and view of the enemy. This consideration led to the introduction of the field-grey Sturmartillerie uniform on May 29th 1940 with the same design and cut of the black panzer wrap uniform.
Field-grey wool construction, double breasted tunic with small fold back lapels and a large lay down collar. The left front closure panel of the tunic has four hidden button holes and an additional three, visible button holes on the fold back lapel. The right front closure panel has all four large and two of the three smaller corresponding buttons intact. The edge of the right front closure panel has an additional two, small, buttons underneath the overlapping left closure panel with corresponding, internal, fabric loops for a secure closure with a neat appearance. The tunic also has a single metal hook and eye positioned at the forward neckline for a secure closure. The right breast has an machine woven, national eagle in matte grey threads on a cut-out, woven field-grey rayon base. The eagle is factory hand and machine sewn in place. The reverse of the tunic has a central seam. EM slip on shoulder straps with red rayon piping slided and buttoned in place. The collar has the typical zig-zag reinforcement stitching to the reverse. The collar features collar tabs with red rayon piping and silver washed . The collar features the elongated, field-grey wool collar tabs with the typical, silver washed, Danziger style Totenkopf cyphers pinned in place. The collar tabs are machine sewn to the collar. To the upper left sleeve is a obergefreiters rank chevron on bottle green cloth backing neatly hand sewn in place. East front ribbon is hand sewn to the upper button hole and there is award loops sewn for one award. The interior breast panels are lined in silver/grey rayon cloth. The lining has a patch pocket to the right breast panel and a slash patch pocket to the left breast panel. The interior of the tunic also has two, rayon straps with six stitched eyelets to each, situated at the waistline to secure the belt support hooks. The interior also has a tunnel looped, grey drill cloth fit adjustment drawstring to each of the waistline side panels. Clearly size and Rbnr marking to the inner left lining.
The tunic is in very good condition, no holes or mendings. All original buttons still in place. There is light signs of age and use with some minor stains. This wrapper was most likely used as a “walking out” example.
