Luftwaffe Officers Sword, E.F Hörster

Nice early (pre-1940) roughly 69 cm long nickel/silver plated drop forged steel dual edged blade with a central fuller running from the cross guard about 25 cm long down the blade towards the tip. The blade is in overall very good clean condition with just some runners. The reverse ricasso of the blade is well marked with the acid etched E.F.Hörster manufacturers logo. The original blue leather washer is still intact. The sword has a cast alloy cross guard and pommel. The nicely detailed cross guard features downwardly curved stylized wings to each side with a central raised circular panel with a inset canted brass sunwheel swastika to both the obverse and reverse. Both pommeland guard is uncleand. The blue Moroccan wrapped carved wooden grip has its original dual strand twisted brass wire wrap still intact, but there are some wear to the leather and loss of the blue paint. The cast alloy pommel also features an inset canted brass sunwheel swastika to both the obverse and reverse with the edge of the pommel displaying an ornate repeating, hand etched oak-leave pattern.

The sword comes complete with its original alloy construction scabbard with a grained blue Moroccan leather covering and nickel/silver plated alloy fittings. The scabbards leather covering is in Very Good condition. Both the top and bottom scabbard fittings show moderate tarnish and some minor surface spotting. The top fitting also has an integral hanger suspension loop to each side and comes with its original blue Moroccan leather hanger with alloy fittings. The hanger is secured to the top scabbard mount loops and has the addition of a retaining clip to its top edge.
