Waffen-SS Sturmscharführer's Stug Wrapper

Later war production, coarse, dark field-grey wool construction, (captured Italian cloth). SS pattern with no central seam to the reverse, waist length, double breasted style tunic with a fold back lapels and a lay down collar. Front closure panel has all four large and all three smaller, corresponding buttons intact. The edge of the right front closure panel has an additional two, small, buttons with corresponding internal, button loops for a secure closure with a neat appearance. The tunic also has a single metal hook and eye positioned at the forward neckline for a secure closure. Right collar tab also in black wool with machine embroidered SS runes in white/grey threads. Left collar tab with two rank pips pinned in place as well as two SS rank bars. Both tabs are machine stitched to the collar. Slip on shoulder straps of black wool with red wool waffenfarbe and dull grey NCO’s tress and three rank pips pinned in place. Upper left sleeve has a machine embroidered, second pattern,RZM EM/NCO’s SS national eagle in silver/grey threads on a cut-out black rayon base which is machine sewn to sleeve in the typical zig-zag fashion. Sewn to the left chest area are award loops for three awards. And hand sewn to the lapel is ribbons for Iron Cross Second Class and East Front Medal.

The interior front panels of the tunic are lined in silver/grey “fishbone” rayon. The lining has black ink size stamp. The interior side seams each have the belt support hook straps and metal hooks still intact. The interior waistline has, tunnel looped, grey cotton drawstrings for fit adjustment. The buttons, are made of molded glass and all appear to have their original stitching. The wrapper shows signs of age and real use with age/use darkening to all exposed parts. The wrapper has the fat, oily touch what we like to feel when handling an original, war time used tunic. No holes, rips or mendings.
