The Russian Front Medal was instituted by Adolf Hitler on May 26th 1942 to commemorate the first winter campaign in Russia. The award was available to all Wehrmacht personnel, civilians and foreign volunteers who met the required criteria with the main qualification being at least fourteen days of participation in combat on the Russian front between November 15th 1941 and April 15th 1942.
The medal is constructed of die struck Zinc and comes complete with intact suspension ring and ribbed, rayon ribbon. The medal is in very good condition and retains most of it’s original grey and silver paint wash. The suspension ring is maker marked “5” for “Hermann Wernstein, Jena-Lonstedt / Thüringen”. The medal comes wrapped in it’s original tissue paper and cellophane envelope.
Very rare to find with it’s original factory wrappings, this medal is also from a scarce maker!!
