Heer First Pattern Tropical Pith Helmet, Produced 1941

First pattern pith helmet as worn by members of the German Afrikakorps and in other tropical regions such as Italy and Greece. Produced in pressed cork with tan colored canvas (and not felt like the 2’nd pattern). Complete with a matching set insignia on both sides of the helmet. Full length chin strap is present and remains in good condition. The top is a bit crushed. Inside is complete with sweatband. The helmet is year of production and maker marked under the sweatband “Maury & Co 1941”. The helmet shows clear signs of age and use with a couple of larger stains to the obverse.

Much harder to find than the second pattern in executed in felt!!
