Heer Officer's M43 Field Cap

795.00

Field-grey wool construction cap features fold down back and side panels with two small field-grey metal buttons. The back and side panels were designed to be folded down to protect the wearers ears and neck and the front section could be secured with the buttons closed under the wearers chin. The top crown edge is piped in bright silver/aluminum braiding. The front center of the cap has a machine woven national eagle in bright silver/aluminum flat-wire threads and a national tri-color cockade in flat-wire and red threads mounted on a woven grey/green rayon base. The insignia is machine sewn to the cap. The cap has an extended cloth covered visor with an internal stiffener with a subtly raised lip to the top of the forward edge. The interior of the cap is fully lined in grey rayon. Partial leather sweat band is fully intact. Inside is size marked “58” in black ink and also marked “Bavaria – Filmkünst” stamped in purple ink. About 20 years ago, there was a large batch of Bavaria-Filmkünst stamped tunics and headgears hitting the market. Apparently “Bavaria-Filmkünst” had sold out their old stock of war-time produced uniforms and headgears as they used as movie prop. All marked exactly like this. At that point of time, collectors frowned upon these marked items. They was seen as tempered with originals becuase of the post war made stamps. That is not the case any more, now it’s seen as a good sign of originality! Needless to say, items marked like this demands a equal if not even higher value compared to standard uniforms and headgears.

The cap is in good, still used condition. Inside with light wear marks and usage toning. Obverse shows use / age fading as well as some napwear to exposed parts. All in all a well preserved cap which for sure has seen some action.

Very nice Heer officer’s field cap in good, used condition!!
