Adolf Hitler restored the Iron Cross in 1939 as a German decoration / bravery award and continued the tradition of issuing it in various classes. The Iron Cross was awarded for bravery in battle as well as other military contributions in a battlefield environment.

 

This is a Iron Cross Second Class 1939. Standard issue three piece construction cross with magnetic Iron core. The black Iron core has most of the black paint intact although a bit age and use faded. The cross is complete with intact medal ring, suspension ring and long medal ribbon. The suspension ring is maker marked “25” for “Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Graveur-, Gold und Silberschmeide-Innungen, Hanau”. The cross is in good condition with a nice age patina.
