Iron Cross Second Class 1939 Maker Marked "55"

Adolf Hitler restored the Iron Cross in 1939 as a German decoration and continued the tradition of issuing it in various classes. The Iron Cross was awarded for bravery in battle as well as other military contributions in a battlefield environment.

 

This is the Iron Cross Second Class 1939. Standard issue three piece construction cross with magnetic Iron core. The black Iron core has about 98% of the black paint still intact. The cross is complete with intact medal ring, suspension ring and medal ribbon. The suspension ring is maker marked “55” for “J.E. Hammer & Söhne, Geringswalde”. The cross is in very good condition with minor signs of age.
