Japanese Cased Order of the Rising Sun 6th Class

195.00

The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, could be awarded to either military or civilian personnel for meritorious service. There were eight classes to this order, of which only the lowest two were given to enlisted personnel. This medal the sixth of eight classes, is in the form of a sun in plated silver, with enameled white “rays,” all emanating from a red garnet center. The reverse is identical to the obverse. The uppermost ray is hinged to a spray of jade green enameled Paulownia leaves with four golden kanji characters to the reverse, which translate to “Order of Merit decoration.” The leaves are surmounted by three sets of purple enameled Paulownia flowers on green stalks. A loop is attached to the top, through which passes the ring for the ribbon. The medal comes complete with its original black laquered case with golden Kanji letters. Both medal and case is in very good condition with light signs of age.

A beautiful award in very good condition!!
