Waffen-SS Infantry EM/NCO'S M40 Side Cap 

Field-grey wool construction M40 side cap with fold down side and back panels that slope gently downwards to the front center The front center of the cap has a has a second pattern, machine woven, SS eagle in silvery/grey threads on a cut-out, woven, black rayon base. The front center of the fold down panels has a 1934 pattern, machine woven Totenkopf in silvery/grey threads with black accents threads on a cut-out, woven, black rayon base. Both the eagle and the Totenkopf are neatly handstitched to the cap. The cap has a white rayon, inverted “V” soutache flanking the Totenkopf indicating service with the Infantry. The soutache has been applied in the correct manner, being handstitched in place and inserted through two small puncture holes near the bottom edge of the cap. The interior of the cap is fully lined in mouse grey brushed drill cloth. The lining is marked with a black size inkstamp, “57,5”. Also to the inside is a large, period safety pin pinned in place to give the cap a better look. The cap is in overall good condition with areas of light to moderate nap wear and age and usage toning through-out. No holes, rips tears or mendings.

It’s getting harder and harder to find a really nice, still well used Waffen-SS side cap, like this one!!
