Japanese WWII Navy/NLF EM’s Late-War “Type 3” Field Cap in Near Mint Condition

A standard Japanese Navy late war cotton-made field cap in olive green color. However, interestingly, it has a navy blue
cotton patch machine-sewn to the front. This navy blue patch with a yellow anchor design is originally meant for a navy
blue cap (Type 1), but, after the Navy shifted from the use of navy blue uniforms (Type 1) to that of the olive green ones
(Type 3) in 1943, they had to utilize the leftover stock of the navy blue (Type 1) cap badges for the olive green (Type 3)
caps which were then in full production. Indeed, this combination of the early badge and the late war cap is not unusual, but still
examples of this combination are rather scarce. The cap itself is a typical Type 3 field cap with a doubled canvas
chinstrap in the front and complete with its adjustment loops. A tie string is looped between hand-sew eyelets for size
adjustment. These are normal features of an original Navy field cap. However, as is often the case with this type of cap,
the quartermaster stamp is faded or so faint that it cannot be recognizable. The production year and the place of issuance
are unknown, but, the size appears to be medium.

This is a very attractive cap with a cool navy blue patch – a scarce
combination but 100% original!!
